About IUniversity

Built for how Nigeriaactually studies.

IUniversity is a fully digital open university that delivers its programmes in affiliation with University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) — wholly Open & Distance Learning, CCMAS-aligned, and built so a learner in Kano or Calabar can study seriously on the phone in their pocket, not a laptop they don’t own.

Mission

Widen access to rigorous, employable degrees — delivered under UNICROSS’s charter, without moving to Lagos or Abuja to get it.

IUniversity exists for school-leavers admitted through the Distance-Learning route and working adults alike: CCMAS-conformant curricula taught by qualified human faculty at the regulatory 1:50 tutor-to-student ratio, an always-on AI tutor that explains and hands off — never grades — and a delivery model engineered for the Nigerian context: mobile-first, data-cost-sensitive, downloadable.

School of Computing

Six digitally-native computing degrees — from software to security to AI.

School of Management & Social Sciences

Business, accounting and economics for a digital-first African economy.

School of Communication & Media Studies

Storytelling and media for the digital newsroom.

School of Health Sciences

Population health and prevention for a digital-first Nigeria.

School of Education

Learner-centred educators and instructional designers for online learning.

Core values

Six commitments the model doesn’t bend on.

Access & inclusion

A UTME-exempt Distance-Learning route (2024 JAMB policy) and a phone-first platform mean geography and device cost stop deciding who gets a degree.

Academic rigour

Every course maps to CCMAS learning outcomes. The same 60–70% exam / 30–40% CA standard applies online exactly as it would on a physical campus.

Integrity

External examiners on every course, e-proctored exams with anti-impersonation safeguards, and results that move through approval — never issued instantly.

Human-centred innovation

The AI tutor is a complement, never an unverified substitute. Technology serves human academic judgement, not the other way round.

Nigerian & African relevance

Case studies, examples and the institutional 30% curriculum layer are built for the economy our graduates actually work in.

Accountability & transparency

Accountable to UNICROSS, NUC, JAMB, students and funders alike — published standards, published fees, no fine print on what "fully digital" means.

How ODL learning works

Online-first, with the in-person anchors NUC requires — never marketed as “100% online.”

Content delivery and facilitation happen online. Examinations, periodic facilitation and practicum keep a physical or e-proctored anchor — the honest description is online-first, not purely virtual.

01

Study on the device you own

Video lectures, readings and interactive modules stream data-saver-aware, with audio-only and download options — because most Nigerian learners study on mobile data, not campus wifi.

02

A real lecturer, capped at 50 students

Every student is assigned a qualified human facilitator who marks continuous assessment and runs live facilitation. The AI tutor is always on beside them, never instead of them.

03

Exams stay anchored

Final exams are e-proctored or sat physically at a study centre — a compelling reason under NUC’s ODL rules. The AI tutor is switched off. Nothing about assessment is virtual-only.

Academic standards

The same standard as a physical campus — hard-coded, not aspirational.

Every course is scored out of 100: continuous assessment 30–40%, final examination 60–70%. Grades sit on a fixed 5-point scale that rolls up to a CGPA classification. None of this is negotiable per course or per student.

Registration stays in the load band

Every semester registration is validated live against the 15–24 unit band — you cannot register under- or over-loaded.

Results are approved, never instant

A result moves through four gates before it reaches a transcript. No exam produces a summative grade the moment you submit.

AI tutor policy

Ada and her nineteen department peers assist. They never grade.

Every student gets an always-on, department-specific AI tutor — one persona per department, governed by an AI Oversight Committee under a published integrity policy. It is a study companion, not an examiner.

Ada — Computer Science tutor

One of twenty department-specific personas

I’m an AI tutor — I won’t do graded work for you, and I’ll bring in a human facilitator for judgement calls.

What the AI tutor does

  • Discloses that it is AI at the start of every conversation
  • Teaches Socratically, grounded in that department’s CCMAS-mapped content
  • Spots weak areas early and sends progress digests, copying your facilitator
  • Escalates judgement calls — and anything it isn’t sure of — to a human

What it never does

  • Write or complete graded coursework for you
  • Grade continuous assessment or exams
  • Replace your assigned human facilitator
  • Operate during a proctored exam — it is switched off
Where we are headed

From affiliation to a pioneering cohort’s first convocation.

Phase 1

Affiliation & curriculum design

Affiliation agreed with UNICROSS, CCMAS mapping across all twenty programmes, and academic governance constituted with the partner university.

Phase 2

Platform & content build

LMS stood up, 100 and 200-level courses authored for all twenty departments, the twenty AI tutor personas trained and reviewed by the AI Oversight Committee.

2027/28

First cohort matriculates

Applications open for the inaugural session via the UTME-exempt Distance-Learning route, screened by O’Level verification and a Senate-approved aptitude assessment.

Years 2–4

Full catalogue, second study centre

300 and 400-level content complete the four-level catalogue as the first cohort progresses toward final exams, SIWES/practicum and capstone defence.

Year 5

First convocation

The pioneering cohort graduates — degrees conferred at Convocation, results Senate-approved end to end.
